3.1 Salford Disability Forum
Salford Disability Forum are running a workshop to understand the issues and
priorities around Irwell City Park for disabled people, particularly issues
around access. Part of the bid for Irwell City Park will include an access
plan as part of the bid.
It will be at the The Masonic Hall in Swinton for an 11am start on Wednesday
28th Feb . The workshop will last for an hour or so, and lunch will be
provided.

3.2 Making Consultation Count - The Consultation Institute
There are places left for the 'Engaging the Hard-to-Reach' seminar in
Manchester, on 21st February - a seminar dedicated to inclusive
participation.
Ruth Kelly's White Paper and the bill currently before Parliament, places a
new emphasis on partnership working to engage with all sectors of the
community. This Consultation Institute seminar focuses on Hard-to-Reach
groups and provides practical suggestions to help achieve better working
practices.
On 21st February, at The City of Manchester Stadium, you can join others who
are interested in this subject to listen to experts, compare notes and
exchange best practice. This mixture of presentations and roundtable
sessions with experts who understand important groups such as disabled
people, youth and ethnic minorities, provides the right environment for
participants to gain most from the experience.

3.3 Going To Waste
Tuesday 27th February, 10am-1pm, followed by lunch at Cross Street Chapel,

A Sustainable Neighbourhoods Pool event with workshops and discussions
around waste issues.
Workshops on:
Promoting and developing recycling in community groups, schools and
businesses
Setting up a community recycling project (tbc)
How to: community composting (tbc)
Also discussions around charging for waste collections, planning for waste &

3.4 Give Health a Chance - Battle against HIV / Aids
Thursday 12th and Thursday 19th April 12pm - 4:30pm
At the Welcome Centre Trinity Church Cheetham Hill Road, Manchester
In the UK over 63,500 people have HIV / Aids Pastor Muanga and Dr Mafuta
will be raising awareness, offering advice and passing on information about
HIV / Aids.

3.5 Celebrating Women's Contribution to the Voluntary Sector - 7th March

3.6 Hate Crime Conference - Thursday 8 March 2007
Manchester Conference Centre, University of Manchester
A free full-day conference focusing on the key subject of hate crime. This
event is for professionals & practitioners from statutory, faith, voluntary
and community sectors.
This conference will raise awareness of hate crime in the region and examine
the different practices being employed to reduce hate crime in the
Northwest.
The event aims to share best practice in partnership working to reduce the
occurrence of hate crime in the region as well as agreeing actions to take
forward as part of the Regional Equality and Diversity Strategy.
The event will begin with registration at 9.00am and conclude at 3.30pm.
Lunch will be provided. The programme includes a mixture of plenary sessions
and workshop groups enabling you to tailor the day to suit your own
knowledge requirements.

3.7 Seminar 'Everyone Wins'
The seminar 'Everyone Wins' is a day for communities and those working in
the public and voluntary sectors on transport and traffic issues to learn
more about each other.
The event is free. Booking is on a first come first served basis and closes

The event aims to:
Support voluntary and community organisations to increase the impact of
their campaigns by focusing on research, training and advice, advocacy,
networking and the sharing of best practice / resources.
Enable decision makers to engage with communities and to understand how
different consultation and community involvement techniques can deliver.
Use real world examples of communities influencing decision making.
The event will be followed up by producing a printed briefing to facilitate
the involvement of community groups in transport decisions.
3.8 Central Manchester Activity & Information Day - Thursday 22nd February
11am-3pm
Do you have a neurological condition or are you a carer of someone with a
neurological condition? If so, this day is for you.
There will be various activities including complementary therapy and
exercise classes. Light refreshments will be provided.

4.0 Information
4.1 Abolition 200 - Grants to commemorate the anniversary of the abolition
of the slave trade in the British Empire
25th March 2007 is the 200th anniversary of the Parliamentary Act to abolish
the slave trade in the British Empire.
In recognition of this, Manchester City Council has made available funds to
help people organise events to commemorate or mark the anniversary. Grants
of up to £3000 are available for exceptional large-scale events, activities
or projects that involve whole neighbourhoods or ward-wide participation.

4.2 Imminent Closure of Services at Mind in Manchester
In recent years Mind in Manchester has developed recovery-focused mentoring
and social inclusion mental health services that have been so successful
that they are currently over subscribed and they have waiting lists over a
year long.
More than 75% of all the people that they work with are sent by statutory
health and social care bodies. Many of their clients have some of the most
complex and longstanding difficulties in a population that is recognised as
having high levels of deprivation and poor mental health (including
suicide).
Without significant support from the statutory authorities Mind in
Manchester's mentoring and social inclusion services will close before the
end of May 2007. They need your help to stop this from happening.

4.3 South Manchester SRF Consultation
Over the past eight months, Manchester City Council together with its
partners has been developing a Strategic Regeneration Framework (SRF) for
South Manchester. The SRF is a long-term regeneration plan (10-15 years)
that outlines a vision for the area and describes how this vision will be
realised through a series of key aims and objectives. In doing this it will
look at physical, social and economic issues that exist within the area.

4.4 Save ESOL Campaign
From the end of this academic year asylum seekers, refugees in employment
and migrant workers, will no longer have access to free ESOL classes.
The Refugee and Migrants Forum, Learning Skills and Employment Network,
Manchester BME Network, and Trade Unions for Refugees, are coordinating a
local Save ESOL campaign to join up with the national campaign launched
recently by UCU.

4.5 Manchester Institute of Sport & Physical Activity (MISPA)
Consultation on a pilot leadership and management programme
We are seeking the views on the consultation from those who:
(1) Work or volunteer for small voluntary and community organisations /
groups (less 10 paid staff)
And / or
(2) Offer support to / work in partnership with small organisations and
groups in the voluntary and community sector.
The information we gather from this exercise will be added to existing
research and local analysis to shape the development of a FREE pilot
leadership and management seminar programme for the voluntary sector in the
North West.

attend the programme in Autumn 2007 / Spring 2008.

4.6 Invitation to Tender to Support Workless People into Employment
The LSC (Learning and Skills Council) in Greater Manchester is allocating
£1,603,445 ESF money to improve the employability of priority groups through
the provision of one-one Skills for Life and vocational support along the
pathway to work.
An overview of the activities that they are seeking to invite tenders

You will work as part of the core team to ensure the smooth running of our
busy office in the Northern Quarter, Manchester, which supports our
programme of participatory arts projects with excluded communities. You will
work as the first point of contact for visitors to CAN and be pro-actively
engaged in coordinating and implementing monitoring programmes and
administrative systems.

Are you passionate about sport and its power for changing lives?
This is an exciting role which provides sports programmes for MMU's 33,000
students and 4,000 staff that range from increasing participation to elite
athlete support.
Based at our All Saint's campus in Manchester but with responsibilities for
programmes on all University campuses, primary responsibilities will include
the introduction and development of participation opportunities for students
and staff, including our 37 team inter-mural Football competition. You will
also develop MMU's new community based coaching and volunteering programme
and provide support to talented athletes.

5.4 Delivering Inclusion Network Partnership Development Worker
Salary: £28,221 per annum. Funded until March 31st 2009
DIN is a partnership between 3 mental health charities in Manchester - HARP,
Mind in Manchester and The Roby.
Over the past 3 years these organisations have been working together to
develop a new way of delivering mental health services in Manchester.
HARP the lead partner are looking to employ a Partnership Development
Worker. This is an exciting opportunity to work with existing partners and
other organisations working within the mental health voluntary and community
sector in Manchester. We are aiming to develop capacity within the
partnership in order that we are ready to take advantage of opportunities
that arise from ongoing funding and commissioning strategies.
