1.0 Network News
1.1 Quarter Reports Due
To enable VAM to finalise Network funding for 2007, your quarter reports
must be returned by Friday 30th March 2007. Any underspend should be
returned, cheques should be made payable to VAM grants.

1.2 CN4M Strategy Group Meeting
The next CN4M Strategy Group meeting will take place on Tuesday 3rd April at
the Green Fish Resource Centre. The meeting will be from 6pm - 8pm with
refreshments available at 5:30pm.

2.0 Training
2.1 Digital Photography
Would you like to go further with your digital photography?
Whether you're new to digital photography or want to improve your existing
skills, this 10 week course starting in May 2007 with The Open University
will develop your ability to create and share digital images.
You will need:
A digital camera, and access to a Windows XP PC
To be confident in using the Internet and email, and in reading and writing
in English
The course includes:
Excellent course materials, including free imaging software
Support whilst you are learning, including three workshops at either Women's
' Electronic Village Hall or Benchill Community Centre
10 credits which could count towards a degree if you pass the course
The course usually costs £155 but is free to people on certain benefits, and
half price for union members.

3.1 The 2007 CLES Summer School
'The Regeneration Challenge: Creativity and Risk' takes place on 11th and
12th July at Hulme Hall, University of
Manchester.
The event provides delegates with the opportunity to learn, think
creatively, debate, develop skills and network. The summer school is aimed
at all those in the public, private and voluntary sectors who are involved
in delivering regeneration, policy making, and neighbourhood renewal.

3.2 Service User Involvement in Health and Social Care
9:45am - 1:45pm 23rd April 2007 St Thomas Centre, Ardwick Green
GMCVO is planning a half day event focusing on client involvement in health
and social care. The purpose of the event will be to share good practice
across the sectors and to develop understanding of creative and effective
ways to engage service users.
The cost is £10 and lunch is included. The event is free to service users
and a maximum contribution of £5 can be made towards travel costs.

3.3 Revealing Histories: Remembering Slavery
25th March 2007 marks the 200th anniversary of the Abolition of the Slave
Trade Act.
Manchester Art Gallery, along with seven other galleries and museums in
Greater Manchester, are commemorating this
anniversary over the weekend of 24th - 25th March through a series of events
that explore the impact of the Transatlantic slave trade on our region.
The programme begins at Manchester Art Gallery on Sunday, 25th March with
the Remembering Slavery Manchester Tour (1.00 - 2.30 p.m. and 3.00 - 4.30
p.m.) with local historian Jonathan Schofield highlighting key city sites
connected to the slave trade. The tour ends at the Gallery with a look at an
object from the collections with links to slavery.
Visitors who want to explore more of the Gallery's collections can follow
the Revealing Histories: Remembering Slavery Gallery Trail and add their own
thoughts to the trail. For more details of this and other events in the

3.4 Love Your Bike Campaign Event - Friday 30th March
Love Your Bike are holding an event with three main elements:
1) A number of rides from points around Manchester culminating at Albert
Square
2) A press call with Cllr Neil Swannick at 8:30 at Albert Square to
demonstrate our continued support for cycling in Manchester
3) The publication of a report 'Stepping Up a Gear', which will summarise
the findings of the web-based research that we've been carrying out over the
year via www.loveyourbike.org.

3.5 VCS Leadership in the North West a Voluntary Sector North West & Third
Sector Leadership Centre Event 3rd May 2007 - Preston
The event is particularly aimed at paid leaders in the sector at chief
officer/director level as well as those with a responsibility for leadership
development.
There will be an impressive array of speakers and presenters from the
public, private and voluntary sectors for this unique event.
I am pleased to confirm that this is a free event for VCS leaders. However,
to ensure maximum possible participation and to cover staging costs we are
asking for a refundable deposit.

3.6 RESPECT Working Group
The next meeting will be on Tuesday 11th April, 10-12pm, Friends Meeting
House with lunch provided.

The meeting will look at funding opportunities and discuss how your group
might be able to tap into existing streams to develop Community Safety
projects.

The Councillor census takes place every two years. The report:
covers the personal background of councillors;
their work as councillors;
councillors views on a range of issues;
comparative data for the wider population.

4.2 GMCVO Training Survey
GMCVO are developing a series of new training courses for the voluntary
sector in the North West. To ensure the training they offer is relevant to
as many people as possible, please help us by completing a short survey
about your training needs. This will take only 2 minutes of your time.

4.3 Digital Strategy for Manchester
Digital Strategy for the Manchester City-Region is now out for consultation.

4.4 Operation Black Vote Manchester
Operation Black Vote and the Manchester Black led Churches came to together
to launch Operation Black Vote Manchester on Thursday 15th March at the
Windrush Millenium Centre in Moss Side.
With an audience of over 70 filled with local activists, council workers,
MPs and local Councillors, youth and young people the day began with a warm
welcome from Operation Black Vote Director Simon Woolley. Simon spoke of the
genesis of the Manchester project and his belief of its effective future.
Praising the Black led churches both locally and nationally in particular
Bishop Doyé Agama for organising this event he said "This is the seed that
will spread forth and multiply to an empowered electorate that will inspire
a generation. A generation that will ask our politicians what are they doing
for our schools, our young, and our community? Operation Black Vote is proud
to belong to a movement that will effect positive change."

You will build capacity within refugee community organisations to enable
them to develop information and support services. You will also deliver an
advice drop-in service to our refugee client group, train & support
bi-lingual volunteers, and supervise a money advice development worker.
You are a general adviser with a minimum of 2 years full time experience (or
part time equivalent). You have an interest in building refugee community
capacity to deliver good quality advice and support services.
