1.1 Sustainable Neighbourhoods Pool Meeting
The next meeting of the Sustainable Neighbourhoods Pool is taking place on
Monday 23rd April, 5pm - 6.30pm in Room 3 at the Friends Meeting House.
Come along for your chance to influence decision making around housing,
planning and environmental issues.
The agenda will include:
- Sustainable Neighbourhoods Partnership review
- Local issues: Whalley Range Conservation Area & East Manchester Housing
Market Renewal concerns
- Protocol for Sustainable Neighbourhoods Partnership area tours
- Feedback from partnership meeting & discussion of agenda items we want at
the next partnership meeting
- Ideas/plans for key issues for the pool, for meetings/events and for
increasing involvement through the next financial year

1.2 CN4M Knowledgebank
The CN4M Knowledgebank is now live on the CN4M website (see link below).

The Knowledgebank will include research relating to and done by the VCS,
examples of projects that are being set up (see example in transport
section) and also examples of best practice.
The Knowledgebank is a work in progress and new categories will be added as

2.0 Training
2.1 Advanced Word Free course - Women Only
'The Skills to Enable Community Learning Programme' aims to develop the
skills of staff and volunteers working in community and voluntary
organisations in Greater Manchester. This will be delivered through
accredited learning opportunities in the areas of Management, ICT skills and
tutor training.
This course leads to a level 3 eDCC qualification.
Course Dates: 8th, 15th & 22ndth May (9.30am - 3pm), 15 Hours
Fees: Free to women working or volunteering in the voluntary or community
sector. A £30 deposit is required to secure your place, refundable on
completion of the training course.

3.1 Supporting Start-up Businesses at Manchester Libraries
MDDA is pleased to be expanding the successful "Selling on the web" series
of events to include an event specially aimed at start up businesses. If
you're thinking of going into business, this event can help you understand
how to get your business online.
Taking place in the Commercial Library at the Central Library, the event
"eBay Trading" is on Wednesday 25th April. from 5.30pm - 7.30pm with
registration and refreshments from 5.00pm.

3.2 The Best Laid Plans - Planning Event
The event will take place on Tues 22nd May 2007 from 4pm - 8pm at the
Mechanics Institute

Want to learn how it works and how you can have your say?
The Sustainable Neighbourhoods Pool and North West Planning Aid are holding
an event to help community and voluntary groups better understand the
planning system. Through presentations and workshops the event will explain
the planning system and how and when you can influence it.

3.3 Community Cohesion Event
Saturday 30th June 2007 at the Blue Box Theatre Chorlton High School
Manchester
One of the main key topics of discussion which the event will highlight is
the current issue of drugs, knife and gun culture affecting our community;
we hope to raise awareness of such issues through Key note speakers and
interaction with the Youth.
Our main theme will be to promote community peace, understanding and unity
and to make this a memorable day and the first of many events to come. If
you are interested in becoming involved in this project, there are

3.5 CulturEuro Seminar - EMF House (nr Chinatown), Manchester Monday 23rd
April 2007
The CulturEuro Seminar will provide the latest information on European
cultural co-operation and funding opportunities for 2007. They will not only
explore Culture 2007, but also the new programmes for education, training,
young people, the environment, research & development - plus the new
Structural Funds, and possible new opportunities from the Common
Agricultural Policy (CAP) budgets.
CulturEuro will highlight not only current and future EU funding
opportunities but also ways in which cultural organisations can build
partnerships, access other European sources of funding and deal with the
challenges of the latest EU rules and regulations.
The seminar cost £85 per person (+VAT) and will run from 2pm -5pm

3.7 Green City Network Conference 2007
Following on from the launch in 2006 of the Green City Network, this year's
event will be about two important developments for Manchester Green City. We
will be discussing what's happening already around the city and what action
we all need to take to meet the challenges on a local and global scale.
There will be two workshops on Green City Themes and targets and on Climate
Change Strategy that will inform and be informed by delegates and speakers
alike. This is your chance to let the Council and the region's environmental
support networks know:
• Your ideas and priorities for growing Manchester's economy within
environmental limits
• How you can help to deliver on the work of the Green City and
Climate Change

4.0 Information
4.1 Invitation to join the Women's Electronic Village Hall (WEVH) Management
Committee
The organisation is currently seeking to expand its services and to secure
funding to support this expansion. In order to achieve this goal, WEVH is
seeking to expand the capacity of its voluntary management committee with
new members that can contribute to the future direction of the organisation.
The management committee plays an important role in supporting the director
and other paid staff, setting the strategic direction for the organisation,
ensuring that it meets its charitable aims, and fulfilling legal
requirements as a company limited by guarantee. As well as seeking women who
are interested in the general development of the WEVH, we would also welcome
support from new members that can bring particular skills in the areas
listed below:
Marketing - someone with marketing experience who can help the WEVH to
promote itself and its service effectively and to position itself
successfully within the sector in which it is operating.
Facilities Management - WEVH owns its own building which is a tremendous
asset. The organisation would welcome someone who has a track record in the
area of facilities management to support the effective management of this
facility.
HR -we would welcome a person with a HR background to sit on the management
committee and provide advice.
Funding - the organisation is looking for an individual with a background in
fund-raising who can help the organisation to explore alternate sources of
funding.
Finance - someone with accountancy / financial services expertise to provide
support for the management committee in reporting and management of
accounts.
ICT - as an ICT provider, the WEVH is acutely aware of the need to keep
abreast of new developments. To this end the organisation is looking for
someone who is working within the area of ICT and is able to contribute to
the ICT developments of the organisation.

4.2 New Lone Parents Group
Do you look after your children on your own? Would you like the chance to
meet others in your situation?
The group will get together to think about how we might organise affordable
activities and trips out, and get the information and support they need.
The first meeting is at the Abraham Moss Centre on Thursday 3rd May 2007
from 10am - 12:30pm.
Zest are contributing a free healthy buffet and children are welcome.

4.3 Community Safety Department Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service
The Community Safety department based in North Manchester can offer a wide
range of free services.
They can deliver presentations to any groups within the community. This
includes secondary schools, youth groups, groups of diversity, care workers,
older groups, special needs groups and any other people in the community who
require any fire/ community safety information.
Fire Safety: They promote the free fitting of smoke detectors in domestic
properties with a home fire risk assessment. They can deliver fire safety
talks to discuss fire hazards in the home including escape plans. These
talks can range from 20 minutes to an hour using videos & literature.
Car Crime: They can offer car crime packages to talk about the dangers
associated with stolen vehicles and also information for young inexperienced
drivers. There are also many other subjects which can be covered.
They can deliver these presentations to any group at a time that is
convenient to you. Bookings may be taken for evening work and weekends
depending on times and dates.

4.4 The Day the Rain Turned to Paint
To celebrate the summer and shamelessly exploit some colour the 18th of May
2007 will from here on be officially known as The day the rain turned to
paint.
...an exhibition at the Zion Arts Centre.

4.5 Irwell City Park Project Film
In May 2007, Manchester and Salford City Councils, Central Salford Urban
Regeneration Company and Trafford MBC, will submit a bid for £25 million to
the Living Landmarks Big Lottery Fund. This bid is to fund an urban city
park - stretching from The Quays through to Manchester City Centre and onto
Peel Park, close to Salford University. The project is being referred to as
Irwell City Park.
The vision for the Irwell City Park project is to transform the riverside
into an accessible, attractive and vibrant waterfront offering social and
economic benefits to neighbourhoods along the River.
As part of our final bid we will be submitting a short film, and we would
like local people from Salford, Manchester and Trafford to be part of it.
Anyone interested in participating in the film is welcome to come along for
an "audition", which will involve an informal chat on camera for 5-10
minutes on Thursday 26th April, 4-7pm in Salford (venue to be confirmed).

4.6 Commissioning Framework for Health and Wellbeing Survey
This survey is aimed at managers and directors of health and social care VCS
organisations. It is to find out which voluntary and community sector (VCS)
organisations deliver public services in Manchester and beyond, and the
benefits and barriers to doing so.
This is to prepare the ground for a consultation workshop taking place on
May 22nd. This will aim to give VCS organisations a chance to discuss the
new commissioning framework published by the Dept of Health as well as
commissioning more generally.

5.3 Women's EVH Centre Manager Post
Manchester Women's Electronic Village Hall (WEVH) is a unique women's ICT
training and resource centre, located in the centre of Manchester.
Established in 1992, WEVH has an impressive track record in delivering both
support and training to women in Manchester.
WEVH is looking to recruit a centre manager who will be responsible for all
the day to day running of the centre, including business development,
financial management, recruitment and management of staff, service delivery
and quality assurance.
WEVH is looking for someone with experience of business and financial
management, setting and monitoring budgets and staff management. Experience
of setting up and delivering services will be important.
The salary will be from £26,000 - £30,000.
The deadline for applications is Friday 27th April 2007. Interviews will be
held on Friday 4th May 2007.
