2.0 Training

2.1 Youth Arts Training in the North West- not to be missed!

Artsplan, the training and publications department of Artswork and the
in-house training provider of ENYAN (English National Youth Arts Network)
have just announced a new date for youth arts training being delivered at
the North West Artsplan Training Centre.

The one-day course, 'Using the Arts with Young Refugees and Asylum Seekers',
has already been very successful across the country in the past year and
will be running on 11th June 07 9.45 am- 4 pm at Cornerhouse, Manchester.

The course begins with an exploration of the barriers to social and
educational inclusion experienced by young refugees and asylum seekers, upon
their arrival to Britain, moving on to look at a number of approaches
through which the arts can contribute to the inclusion of young people, who
are not fluent in spoken English. During the training day participants will
explore different ways of developing and adapting these approaches to youth
arts work with young refugees and asylum seekers. Most approaches begin
with drama or movement though there will be exploration of other art forms
such as video and visual arts.

The course is suitable for anyone currently using or looking to use the arts
with young people who are refugees or asylum seekers or who are beginner
speakers of English, including youth workers, artists, arts venues, councils
and other similar roles.

Jay Barron, Artsplan Development Manager, commented: "This is our second
year of running Artsplan courses at Cornerhouse. Following the success of
last year, the 2007 dates have been planned in consultation with the youth
arts sector in the North West. This specialist course was developed in
partnership with Greenwich and Lewisham Young People's Theatre and provides
an excellent insight into creative, effective ways of working with extremely
vulnerable young people".

All participants will receive a certificate of attendance upon successful
completion of the course, and a wealth of practical resources, including
free copies of the relevant Artsplan guidelines and the celebrated Youth
Arts Learning Passport. Prices for the courses, which include lunch and
refreshments, range from £150 to £110, with bursaries available. Please also
remember that full ENYAN members receive 10% discount on all Artsplan
publications and training.

For more information on the course and to book a place, please contact Jay
Barron, Artsplan Development Manager, on
